2 Fitness Products From Samsung
Wearable gadgets are slowly and steadily finding a place in the market today. Smartwatches especially, have become quite popular since Apple and Samsung launched their own versions some time ago. Following up on the trend, Samsung has now launched its first set of fitness wireless earbuds, termed Gear IconX and a successor to its 2012 fitness band, Gear Fit 2.
Gear IconX earbuds can either be paired via Bluetooth to your Android Device, or its internal memory of 4GB can be used to listen pre-loaded songs. The earbuds are essentially fitness trackers which help you monitor heart rate, speed, distance, duration and other such parameters during your work out and provides voice guided updates. The in-ear guidance is recorded by real human beings in 15 different languages. The earbuds are accessed to play music, increase/decrease volume and perform other functions by using different taps and long-presses on their capacitive outer surface. In addition, you also have option to enable ambient sounds which helps you hear your surroundings while you are playing your music or listening to voice guided workout feedback.
The earbuds come with a charging case which can hold two full charges. The battery life on Gear IconX earbuds can be considered as its biggest drawback, as they offer hardly 1.5 hours when you connect via Bluetooth, and three hours when you use its internal storage to listen to music. The earbuds have mic, which can be used to make calls. Besides, the earbuds are compatible only with Android devices above Android 4.4 and work well with Samsung’s Gear IconX app. They sell for $200 in white, black and blue color and will be available by Q3 of 2016.
Coming to Gear Fit 2, it is the next iteration of Gear Fit which was launched two years back. Gear Fit 2 offers 1.5 inch curved display and all the necessary sensors you would expect from your fitness band. It has heart rate monitoring, built-in GPS, activity tracker and hosts of other such features. You can pair your Gear Fit 2 with your smartphone and get notifications about calls, calendar events and reply to text messages from within the band. The S Health app allows you to set goals among your friends and compare results. You can also listen to songs via its in-built storage of 4GB.
The 200mAh battery allows 3-4 days of regular usage. Based on Samsung’s own Tizen OS, the Gear Fit 2 is compatible only with Android devices above 4.4 and having minimum of 1.5 GB RAM. The band is available in three colors, blue, pink and grey. As the band is water resistant and has rating of IP68. This should allow you to wear the band in rain and for some swimming as well. At $180, Gear Fit 2 provides good competition to Microsoft Band 2 and Fitbit Blaze.
