Alcatel A5 LED, A3 & U5 Smartphones Launched

At the Mobile World Congress, Alcatel unveiled three smartphones- the A5 LED, A3 and U5.

They are said to be launched as budget phones but there is no clarity on that end. Although the features of all the three smartphones will be entry level, they have brought in some innovation with the Alcatel A5.

Alcatel A5 LED

Starting off with the most interesting phone of the newly launched ones, the A5 comes with a LED panel back that lights up. The colours and patterns change based on the notifications received. The user can assign a different colour & pattern for incoming calls, messages, alarms & social media alerts. The cover is detachable and Alcatel claims the alternative covers will include a battery pack and a speaker back.

It has a 5.2 inch IPS HD display with 1,280×720 pixel resolution. It comes with a 1.5Hz octa-core Mediatek MT6753 processor. It is a dual SIM phone that has a 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage which is expandable using a microSD card. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

As far as the camera goes, it’s an 8MP rear camera with a dual tone flash and a 5MP front facing camera. It supports 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS & micro-USB. The Alcatel A5 LED comes with 2,800mAh battery.

Alcatel A3

The features of the Alcatel A3 are lower than that of the A5 LED but better than the Alcatel U5. It has a 5 inch IPS HD display with 1,280×720 pixel resolution. It comes with a 1.25GHz octa-core processor, 1.5GB RAM and 16GB internal storage that is expandable upto 32GB using a microSD card. This phone is also a dual sim and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow like the A5 LED.

It has a 13 mega-pixel rear camera and 5 mega-pixel front facing camera. The device supports 4G LTE, VoLTE, WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC & GPS. The battery power is 2,460mAh, a little lower than the A5 LED.

Alcatel U5

The features of the Alcatel U5 are much lower than the A5 LED and the A3. It has a 5 inch FWVGA display with 854×480 pixel resolution. It comes with a 1.1 GHz quad core processor, 1GB RAM and only 8GB internal storage. It runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow ans supports 4G LTE.

There is a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera. One feature that seems interesting is that it comes with front facing speakers and a fingerprint sensor.

The battery power is just 2,050mAh, much lower than the A5 and slightly lower than the A3.

Mobile Upgrades: Killing The Product Before Its Time?

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life

Frequently upgrading the software is a real problem as updating the software might cause your phone to lag because of the older hardware.

They should come out with upgrades for the specific phones and not for the separate Operating System. This way a special version for your phones specific hardware can be made
