Apple iPad Mini 4 Review: Multitasking Performer

iPad

With the festive season around the corner, we are sure you are wondering what gift to buy for your loved ones. Apple has just launched iPad Mini 4. All of us are aware the Apple products are the best in the market, but let us have a lowdown on this new product before you buy it.

Display

The display on the iPad mini 4 is bright and crisp as it was on the mini 2 two years ago. However other brands are able to match up with it. Galaxy Tab S2 matches 7.9inch screen of iPad mini 4’s 2048 x 1536-pixel resolution. Apple is known for incorporating the LCD, touch sensor and cover glass together to prevent the light from bouncing. Also present is a special coating on the glass. The effect is a tablet that tempers images so that content can be viewed even at lower brightness levels.

Design

The look and feel of the iPad mini stays similar to its predecessor product, except that it is bit leaner and bigger this time. It measures 8 x 5.3 x 0.24 inches and weighs 300 grams. The 7.87 x 5.3 x 0.29-inch mini 3 is about 40 grams heavier. This slimmer version looks attractive compared to other tabs available in the market.

The gold and circular Touch ID button sits on the bottom. The power button maintains it place on the top edge, while the volume and lock switches are also in the same place as iPad mini 3. A 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera is found in the front, and a 5-MP camera is placed on the rear. You shall find the two speakers and a lightning port on the bottom.

It does not come with a microSD slot and you might wish it had one, because if you go for the 16GB variant you will fall short of space eventually. Though Apple’s iCloud drive offers free 5GB space.

It comes with iOS 9 which makes multitasking much easier. It has a Slid Over feature, that allows you to swipe in from the right to open a screen where you can choose an app to run in a smaller window. The other two screens will run in the background waiting for your attention.

Performance

This tablet knows how to respond instantly. Guess the credit goes to Apple A8 CPU and M8 coprocessor with 2GB of RAM. It will take you just a second to return to your home screen and get the camera ready to shoot. The battery life will last for more than 9 hours, the company claims 10 hours.

Cameras

The 8 MP rear camera takes impressive images. You will love the panorama mode shooting as it gives you a very smooth image. Even the front facing camera will live up to your expectations.

Verdict

If you are looking for a pocket-friendly and compact tab with premium features, iPad mini 4 is a great option. Though you will find the features not upgraded from the previous minis. However, iPad 4’s 7.9 inch has simple interface and excellent display plus good battery life will make it worth considering.

Mobile Upgrades: Killing The Product Before Its Time?

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life

Frequently upgrading the software is a real problem as updating the software might cause your phone to lag because of the older hardware.

They should come out with upgrades for the specific phones and not for the separate Operating System. This way a special version for your phones specific hardware can be made
