Google Hopes To Crowdsource Android Wear Watch Face Designs

Google has teamed up with Paper Magazine to crowdsource the next collection of Android Wear watch face designs and had accepted submissions in the past few weeks from creative individuals. This is big news for anyone who may be working to get acknowledged for their designs and it could be particularly advantageous if their designs are chosen. The last date for submissions was September 15th, 2016. The submissions had been sent in through Instagram by using two hashtags – #AndroidWear and #WearWhatYouWant. Though these were the only two requisites for design submission, Google had a full list of terms and conditions that people had to go through with regards to actual designs, defining what is suitable and what is not.

The competition is in celebration of the upcoming Fashion Week and since it is global, anyone around the world had a chance to enter. Having said that, it looks like the nature of what Google and Paper are looking for, is a pretty huge and broad set of options, with an affirmation to “sketching” out design on a napkin or just simply clicking a photo before posting it up on social media. Apart from having your design introduced, the Grand Prize Winner will get a cool package which includes their choice of a Huawei Watch, Huawei Watch Elegant, or Huawei Watch Jewel, as well as round trip airfare as a guest to Paris for Fashion Week, hotel accommodations for four nights, food and three counselling sessions with one of the judges.

Five designs will be chosen to be turned into watch faces in Google’s fall fashion collection. Paper Magazine has already locked the services of five judges who will be assessing the designs: Mickey Boardman (Paper’s Editorial Director), Cynthia Rowley, Jenné Ty Hunter, Lombardo and Morten Just.

The tech giant is hoping to implore the creative power of the masses through crowdsourcing a unique watch face design, which will be highlighted on Google’s wearable. Thanks to a new partnership between Paper magazine and Android Wear, you had the opportunity to contribute to a social media competition that involved a “global search for unique watch face designs.”

Landing a job opportunity with Google may be hard, but getting your design featured, as the company’s new Fall Android Wear Watch, could be the opportunity of a lifetime! So, best of luck to all the contenders and hope the deserving one wins.

They should come out with upgrades for the specific phones and not for the separate Operating System. This way a special version for your phones specific hardware can be made
