Huawei Honor 6X Launced At Rs. 12,999

Honor, the offshoot brand of Huawei, launched a reasonably-priced dual camera smartphone exclusively on Amazon, christened as Honor 6X in New Delhi on 24 January. The company had earlier launched the same phone in the US at $250 (Rs. 16,996 approximately). The Honor 6X 3GB variant is priced at Rs. 12,999, while the 4GB variant with 64GB internal storage comes with a Rs. 15,999 price tag.

The 6X is the successor to Honor 5X which was first announced in Shenzhen, China, in October 2016 at a starting price of ¥999 (Rs. 9,765) for the 32GB and 3GB RAM variant, going all the way to ¥1,599 (Rs. 15,630) for the highest 4GB RAM and 64GB model. All variants support hybrid microSD expandable storage.

Honor 6X isn’t the first dual-camera phone from Huawei. The company had earlier introduced Honor 8. Rather than a brand new model, Honor 8 was merely a watered down version of the company’s signature P9 smartphone, available at Rs. 29,999. Honor 6X, however, is the first smartphone from Huawei to bring rear dual cameras to the masses.

The dual camera system of Honor 6X is different from the on-board ones in Huawei P9 or the Honor 8. The Honor 6X is fitted with a 12MP+2MP camera setup which is supported by LED flash and phase detection autofocus. The 12MP is the regular lens while the 2MP lens is capable of depth sensing so that users can forge a software perfected background blur in their photos after clicking it. On the front, the phone is fitted with an 8MP camera. So in effect, you get three cameras in the Huawei Honor 6X.

While the dual-camera feature is the USP of Honor 6X, the phone has several cool features. With a rear fingerprint scanner, the phone is packed in a full metal body. It’s quite similar to the Honor 5X. The 6X comes wth a 1080p 5.5 inch display & runs on a HiSilicon Kirin 655 octacore processor. It’s a custom-built chip manufactured by Huawei. The Honor 6X is a dual SIM phone that supports 4G LTE connectivity. The user interface is Marshmallow-based Emotion 4.1. It supports DTS audio processing and output. On board sensors include proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, magnetometer, and an accelerometer. Other standard features of the phone include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS.

The smartphone is powered by a 3340 mAh battery and can deliver up to 600 hours of standby time and more than 11 hours of video playback. With ultra-fast charging features, the Honor 6X battery can be fully charged in 2.5 hours. The phone weighs 162gms.

The Huawei Honor 6X will be up for some tough competition in the Indian market. Motorola G4 Plus, Lenovo K6 Note, and Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 are likely to be its closest competitors. But the Chinese Coolpad Cool 1 would be the nearest rival. It’s an affordable alternative to the Honor 6X, fitted with a dual camera and priced at Rs. 13,999.

It’s now to be seen how the phone fares in the Indian market.

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life

Frequently upgrading the software is a real problem as updating the software might cause your phone to lag because of the older hardware.
