Huawei Watch 2 Set For Debut
Huawei, the Chinese networking and telecom equipment manufacturing giant, is slated to introduce its next flagship smartwatch. Christened as Huawei Watch 2, the gadget is all set to be showcased at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. While the company hasn’t announced anything in this regard, Richard Yu, Huawei’s consumer business group CEO seems to have indirectly confirmed the development on his Weibo account.
According to media reports, Yu released a post on the social media platform with hashtags for “Huawei MWC 2017” and “Huawei Watch 2”, which probably indicates the unveiling of the gadget at the said event.
Fitness is the focus
Yu, alongside his social media update, posted a teaser image of the smartwatch which depicts a man in mid-run position, dressed in exercise clothing. There’s very little giveaway in the teaser image. But it does mean that the Huawei Watch 2 focuses on fitness or at least represents a digital fitness partner.
The “Made for Free Spirits” tagline in the teaser doesn’t reveal much. In fact, it’s far from indicating that the product could be a fitness wearable. But on the face of it, the tagline is first in the line of similar phrases likely to follow.
Smartphone not needed?
While details about the gadget are yet to emerge, this isn’t the first time that the smartwatch was rumoured to be introduced at the MWC. Earlier, in January, media reports suggested that the watch will debut at the same event. The gadget, the report said, will allow users to send messages, make calls, and do more, without the requirement to tether the wearable to any smartphone. The “Made for Free Spirits” tagline reinforces this aspect of the gadget.
The Press event
The Chinese multinational has already confirmed that it will organise a Press meet at the MWC in February. Speculations are rife that the company may unveil the Huawei P10 and the Honor 8 Lite, and more. The company has earlier said that the event would feature “the global unveiling of a new flagship device.” Rumour mills are assuming that the company is referring to Watch 2, which Yu already indicated in his social media post.
Android Wear 2
According to market rumours, Huawei Watch 2 will be thin in looks. But the gadget is almost certain to run on Android Wear 2.0 OS. Development of the smartwatch was deferred to late 2016 to coincide with that of Android Wear 2.0. Other standard features are likely to include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support. Experts in the knowhow of things say that it’s possible for the watch to come with a more sporty and rugged look, compared to the first one. Needless to say, there’s no reason to believe that everything speculated will be packed into the gadget. The company has not revealed the specs of the smartwatch. Neither did Yu say anything about what to expect. But expectations are riding high on the gadget.
