LeEco Le2 : The Pocket Friendly Smartphone

LeEco expanded its portfolio of smartphones in India, by launching Le 2, Le 2 PRO, Le Max 2 during its recent 2Future event.

Of these, the Le 2 is a budget smartphone which promises a lot in terms of specifications on paper in the given price range.

Le 2 is one of the first devices in the world to have a USB Type-C port, which can be used for both, charging as well as for connecting headphones. The unconventional connectivity can be a cause of concern for some, but if rumors for iPhone 7 are anything to go by, it seems that all the major manufacturers are going to ditch the traditional 3.5mm headphones jack for Type-C port in the near future. Type-C port provides superior audio quality, Continual Digital Lossless Audio (CDLA), as well as faster charging for phones. Launching it before any other company is surely one of the USPs of the device.

1The device should be easily capable of handling heavy games and application because of the power under the hood. Internationally, the device is available with Helio X20 processor, whereas in India, LeEco has decided to house 64-bit Snapdragon 652 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, along with Qualcomm Adreno 510 GPU. In terms of memory, Le2 comes with 3 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32 GB of ROM with no expandable memory. Considering it has Type-C port, expanding the memory using OTG can also prove to be difficult since compatibility of the adapter can be an issue. You however get an adapter for 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery is 3000 mAh along with fast charging capabilities.

The device is a 5.5 inch bezel-less Full HD display with 403 PPI, which LeEco claims uses ‘Blue-light’ technology to avoid strain to your eyes even after prolonged use. The form factor of the device is quite similar to its predecessor, Le 1s. In terms of camera, the device has a 16 MP rear camera with 0.09 second focus. It comes with dual-tone flash and can also take 4k videos as well as slow motion videos at 720p @ 120 fps. The front camera is an 8 MP sensor with camera UI simple and easy to use. The fingerprint sensor is at the back and it can also be used for clicking selfies.

3The device comes with Android v6 Marshmallow out of the box with EUI 5.8 on top of it. The company also provides free LeEco membership worth INR 4900 to stream movies, music, cloud storage and live concerts across the world. In terms of connectivity, it offers dual-sim 4G connectivity, but only one sim can be used for 4G at a given time. You also have IR blaster which can be used only with its default remote app as it is not compatible with android standards.

4The device can only be bought via Flipkart through its flash sales, for which you need to register in advance. It is available in rose gold variant for INR 11,999.

Mobile Upgrades: Killing The Product Before Its Time?

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life

Lionel Gurjao

Frequently upgrading the software is a real problem as updating the software might cause your phone to lag because of the older hardware.

They should come out with upgrades for the specific phones and not for the separate Operating System. This way a special version for your phones specific hardware can be made
