Lenovo Ideapad Y900 – The Gaming Giant

Lenovo has been ahead of its time when it comes to gaming laptops, with options such as touchscreens and 4K display made available when these features were virtually unheard of in gaming machines. The Lenovo Ideapad Y900 then comes as no surprise, it is a mammoth of a machine designed to give the user the best gameplay. It follows from its predecessors in the Y series which again were a notch ahead when it came to gaming laptops.

Truly a gaming machine

The Ideapad Y900 comes with 8 GB of NVIDIA GTX 980M discrete graphics and the NVIDIA G-Sync technology provides the ultimate backdrop to make every scene in the gameplay sharper and with immense clarity. The machine is powered by an Intel 6th Gen Core i7 6820HK overclockable processor (that allows you to set the CPU and memory to run at speeds higher than their official speed grade), which translates into some serious power that drives performance in the middle of a game. The laptop comes with a SSD or solid state drive, a Samsung SM 951 PCIE, which fires up the laptop akin to how a mobile phone would start – in an instant. The in-built memory is also phenomenal – 64 GB DDR4 memory – to enhance the gaming experience.

The machine boasts of a 17.3” Full HD 1920×1080 display and the anti-glare screen also features the IPS (In-Plane Switching) technology, to enhance the display and provide the gamer with almost 180 degrees of ide-angle viewing.

Coming to the machine’s keyboard, a mechanical backlit keyboard allows the user to play with accuracy, even in less than optimal lighting conditions. There is an additional feature, the One Key Turbo that enhances the CPU power, memory and graphics card to boost system performance.

Stay connected with Bluetooth 4.0 and the Killer WLAN and LAN that prioritises gaming network packets over other data, to provide uninterrupted gameplay.

With regards to the looks of the Ideapad Y900, there is nothing to complain about, really. An attractive Y-series logo illuminates the brushed metal chassis on the top. Overall, the machine is über slick.

Y900 accessories

Should you want to enhance your gaming experience, there is a range of accessories that you can choose from, including the Lenovo Y gaming stereo headset, an optical mouse and an armoured backpack, all specific to the series. These accessories promise to deliver a far superior and more intense gaming experience.

The verdict

The machine definitely does not come cheap being priced upwards of USD 2,600.00, but with its improved design and faster hardware, it is indeed a force to reckon with. While it may be expensive, for the serious gamer the Lenovo Ideapad Y900 ticks off all the boxes of what is required in a gaming machine and hence is more than likely to be a compelling buy.

Mobile Upgrades: Killing The Product Before Its Time?

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life

Frequently upgrading the software is a real problem as updating the software might cause your phone to lag because of the older hardware.

They should come out with upgrades for the specific phones and not for the separate Operating System. This way a special version for your phones specific hardware can be made
