Meizu Unveils Super mCharge At MWC 2017
At the MWC 2017 mega-event last month, consumer electronics company, Meizu, unveiled its Super mCharge tech which the company claims can charge a smartphone fully in under 20 minutes.
According to the Chinese company, the Super mCharge is a lot faster than Quick Charge and VOOC technologies that its competitors offer. The tech was demoed in front of the MWC audience in Barcelona.
Meizu went on to claim that the Super mCharge tech is able to charge a phone a jaw-dropping 30 percent in only five minutes! According to the company, this feature is what makes it stand out from others and even makes it almost 11 times quicker than the charging speed of the iPhone 7 Plus. It is also said to be 3.6 times quicker than the fast charging feature that the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge offers.
At the MWC demo of the Super mCharge, Meizu showed off the new smartphone charging technology on a device with a battery capacity of 3000mAh. True to its claims, the phone was able to charge up to 30 percent in just five minutes, then 60 percent in about 10 minutes, 85 percent in 15 minutes, and then a full charge capacity in less than 20 minutes.
This is a major milestone for Meizu and users can expect its upcoming smartphones to offer the Super mCharge technology pre-installed. However, users should note that those smartphones with a battery that is larger than 3000mAh will surely take a little more than 20 minutes to reach a full charge.
According to the Chinese tech company, the Super mCharge technology is the upgrade to the previous mCharge tech. This updated technology is said to not only be safer, but also more secure and offer a greater energy efficiency. This is because it utilizes only half of the electrical current that the mCharge used, and yet is able to yield a super high efficiency of 98 percent (compared to its previous 9 percent).
This tech is also able to keep the phone cool whilst charging, reaching a maximum limit of 39 degrees. Thus it eliminates the worry that your smartphone may overheat or even heat up when fast charging.
According to a statement by Meizu, “The reduced heat-dissipation and current, along with an upgraded data cable capable of supporting 160W, ensure that Super mCharge is both safe and durable. Tests show that its 3000mAh ATL battery retains over 80% capacity after over 800 charge and discharge cycles, giving it a service life of more than two years. It can bear more than 4 times the current of an ordinary battery, which allows it to cope reliably.”
When comparing it with the VOOC fast charging technology that Oppo debuted at the MWC last year, we can clearly see that the Super mCharge is a step up as the Oppo tech was able to charge a 2500mAh battery in 15 minutes.
Meizu’s main selling point is that the Super mCharge tech is safer, due to its lower current. Thus it is also said to prolong the lifespan of a smartphone’s internal parts and also prevent heating.
