When two equally powerful opponents have to fight it out against each other, you can rarely predict the result. These two contemporaries are just as powerful. So, here are some facts and stats which can help you decide.

Looks

First impressions make a lot of difference and those impressions are mainly formed post first looks. The look of the two contenders we are discussing here are pretty distinct. The Microsoft Lumia 950 will give you an impression of a chunky, slightly backdated handset. With an all-polycarbonate body, it looks a little retrograde for its time. On the other hand, the iPhone 6s looks quite premium. Made of series 7000 aluminium and with rounded edges, this handset is a winner in this department.

Resolution

Lumia 950 is packed with a 5.2-inch QHD OLED display – it is bigger and sharper than its predecessors and has more vivacious colours and darker blacks.
The iPhone 6S has a 4.7-inch LCD screen, equipped with 3D Touch technology. Presently, it is a unique pressure-sensitive input system which other mobile phone companies would surely want to replicate soon. Potentially, it is a considerable qualitative shift.

OS and Hardware

The Microsoft handset is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 and Windows 10. Although not as powerful as Snapdragon 810, this hexacore and 64-bit version isn’t far behind. iPhone 6s is driven by Apple A9, a dual core 64-bit chip; and iOS 9. If apple’s claims are anything to go by, this one is considerably faster than last year’s version.

When it comes to the RAM, Lumia is a clear winner as it comes with 3 GB RAM as compared to 2 GB in iPhone. However, although Snapdragon 808 is very proficient, A9 is a monster and can beat Lumia hands down. One factor in favour of Lumia 950 is the ‘liquid cooling technology,’ something which will supposedly enable the processor to function fully and for longer duration.

Camera

Lumia cameras are mostly always trustworthy and Lumia 950 is no exception! This handset is equipped with a 20-megapixel PureView rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics. The front camera of both the handsets is 5 MP, while the rear camera of iPhone is 12 MP. Front flash is absent in both the cameras. Microsoft has a triple LED flash system whereas iPhone 6S has double. Both the handsets are fine with 4K video though.
Nonetheless, Microsoft has a couple of plus points over iPhone:

• A dedicated button for camera
• Optical image stabilisation

Storage

Lumia 950 has only one storage variable presently – 32 GB. It comes with a micro SD slot wherein memory is expandable up to 2 TB. iPhone 6s comes in 3 variants – 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. However, iPhone does not have any option of expandable memory.

Battery

A 3000 mAh battery (removable) powers the Lumia 950, whereas, iPhone 6s is powered by a 1715 mAh battery (non-removable) which is a reduction from the previous year’s 1800 mAh version.
Apple has constantly reinvented itself when it comes to biometric security and the latest addition is TouchID, which helps detect fingerprints quickly and accurately, better than before. Lumia 950, on the other hand, does not have a TouchID system but comes with an Iris reader – a reader that scans your eyes.

Now that we have listed all the essential features of the two phones for you, which one will you go for? Let us know as comments below.

Mobile Upgrades: Killing The Product Before Its Time?

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life

Lionel Gurjao

Frequently upgrading the software is a real problem as updating the software might cause your phone to lag because of the older hardware.

They should come out with upgrades for the specific phones and not for the separate Operating System. This way a special version for your phones specific hardware can be made
