Microsoft’s Successor To Lumia – A Look At The Rumored Surface Phone
It might not be the biggest player in the world of handheld gadgets but Microsoft sure does try! The new Surface Phone is its latest try to find some space in the market that’s hogged by biggies like Android and Apple.
While Lumia struggled for a fighting chance in the market, it proved to be of no match to the iPhone and ever-so-resilient Android players. Microsoft finally put an end to the series in December last year and now hope to revive their name with the latest model. So what is this new phone expected to be like? Well, let’s get right to it!
To begin with, the phone is expected to have a screen of 5.7 inches with a sleek and sexy full-body metal. It is widely believed that the manufacturer is designing it in three variants to suit three very different types of consumer base – one that serves as a full-blown business-maker in hand (basically a replacement of the long-forgotten Blackberry) another that offers a power-packed performance for the geek who likes experimenting with tech, and finally the one that will be the light-on-the-pocket, a flagship model with the standard features.
While some are saying the phone will have a standard RAM of 4 GB, speculations are rife that it might be more suited to serve each of the models. While the flagship model will have a decent 3-GB RAM and 32 GB of storage, the BlackBerry-esque model is rumored to have a commendable 6GB RAM with a 128 GB storage. Before that gets you excited, it’s noteworthy to mention that the power-packed performing model will come with, what can only be described as an insane 8-GB RAM and a staggering 500 GB storage space!
While Apple was ruling the market in storage with its 256-GB iPhone 7Plus, OnePlus was leading the game with phones that boasted of 6-GB RAM. The new model is rumored to be Microsoft’s last shot at making a mark in the market of phone makers, and with specs like that, it might just be successful in dethroning the mighty iPhone.
But wait, what about the performance? Microsoft’s announcement towards the end of last year, where they will be working with Qualcomm to bring the desktop-like experience in your palm, had the rumor mills pinning on the specs of the Surface Phone. Does that mean you will now get to use desktop applications like MS Office on your phone? Well, that would be first!
As for the pricing, it is speculated to cost anywhere between Rs 30,000 to Rs 60,000 for the more high-end model. The team that designed Surface Pro, Surface Studio and Surface Book has definitely made a mark while even giving competition to player’s all-time-favorites like the MacBook Air by Apple. Will they be able to do the same with phones? Well, we can only wait and watch!
