Reviewing the Xolo Era 2X

Launched in January 2017, this smartphone is from the Lava Mobile stable, one of India’s first smartphone makers to manufacture Intel processor powered Android phones. Priced at a competitive starting point of Rs. 6,666 (and upwards), this phone provides the user impressive features at the said price point.

It is powered by a 1.25GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6737 processor and has a DDR3 RAM of 2GB. There is also a variant that comes with an inbuilt DDR3 3GB RAM. However, for more storage you can always look at expanding the internal 16GB storage to up to 32GB via a microSD card. The phone also provides VoLTE support. The 12.7 cm (5) HD display on this phone is ultra-bright, with a luminosity of 480 that allows you to check emails, read e-books and browse the Internet even under direct sunlight without compromising on quality or distortion.

The Xolo Era 2X runs on an Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) platform, and is powered by a 2500mAh removable Li-Ion battery. The phone gives a pretty snug fit in your hands, measuring 144.0 mm x 72.30 mm x 9.50 mm (height x width x thickness).

For those users looking at dual SIM handsets, the Xolo Era 2X gives them reason to cheer, and additionally, its range of connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM as well as 3G and 4G connectivity. Sensors on the phone include the proximity sensor, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and a gyroscope. The phone also offers USB connectivity with a microUSB v2.1 (5 pin) option. What is important to note is that only one SIM card supports 4G at a time.

And of course, with a camera being an essential component of any smartphone, you can expect an 8MP rear camera with a 5P Larga n lens, f/2.0, Blue Glass Filter and a LED flash. How the Blue Glass Filter helps is, that it filters out excess light and provides superior photographs under any lighting conditions. The 5MP front camera promises you a screen flash (LED working as a flash), 3P lens and f/2.4. With both the primary and secondary cameras, the images are crisp and clear even in low light conditions owing to the lens used. For all those selfies you may want to take, the Xolo’s Beauty Mode only enhances the images.

The colour variants are Latte Gold and Black/ Gunmetal. When it comes to operating the phone overall, it is easy to use. What’s more, you can unlock the phone with just one tap, given the fingerprint sensor. This feature not only eliminates the need for complicated unlock patterns and passwords, but it also gives you immediate access to the camera, apps as well as answering calls. You can also register up to 5 IDs on the handset. What makes the phone a good choice for those looking at a budget smartphone, is its range of features and options.
