Some Hidden Talents Your Smartphone Has!

So you think you know your smart phone well? Looking at the big picture of technology, smart phones are advancing really fast, so much so that we haven’t really taken note of all the awesome things they can do.

Here are some mind blowing things that you didn’t know your smart phone is capable of.

Turn Your Smart Phone Into A Remote Control

Televisions, DVD players, cable boxes and stereos use an infrared (IR) signal to change the channel or play the DVD. To get this facility on your phone you’ll need to purchase a device called an IR blaster that takes your commands on your phone and converts them into infrared signals. Some IR blasters are connected to your Internet router and capture signals from your phone and then send them out to your TV, stereo or DVD player. There are also devices that send signals directly from the gear attached to your phone to the device you want to control. Some of these come with basic functionality, while others can be programmed to turn on multiple devices with just one tap of the screen.

Your Smart Phone Can Be Your Home Security System

There’s nothing smarter than integrating your smart phone into a home security system. With small companies like Canary and Izon, which would help you to do so, you can secure your home from anywhere and at anytime. It turns out that smart phones have all the electronics used in major security systems — both on the monitoring side and sensor side. And phones are a cheaper option than dedicated security systems. Plus, the monitoring equipment is best when it’s accessible all the time and you always have access to your phone.

Measure an Angle or Level It

Did you know that with the right set of apps; your smart phone can be your very own handy man? iHandy Carpenter is a set of apps for iPhone and Android. It comprises a surface level, a plumb bob, a projector and lot more. Just hold your phone against the surface to measure the angle or to level it. Use your phone like an old fashion parallax to judge height and distance. With these apps you can even get the exact height of the Statue of Liberty! Wonderful right!

Did You Forget Your Reading Glasses?

Well, you don’t need to squint if you have your smart phone. Apps like iCanSee (iPhone) and Magnify for Android can zoom in on those tiny prints and help you save your eyesight.

Name That Tune!

Wondering the title of the song that you just happened to like? SoundHound and Shazam are some of the apps that can transform your smartphone into a device which could identify most songs. Even if you hum the song, your device will be able to recognize it.

Measure Your Heart Rate

Instant Heart Rate uses the camera of your smartphone to measure tiny color fluctuations in your finger. It works exactly like those gadgets that clip on to your fingers at the hospitals and measures your heart rate easily.
