Sony Xperia Z5 & Z5 Premium Get Nougat Update

Sony users can rejoice as they have started releasing the update for the Android 7.0 Nougat firmware. The update will be available on Xperia Z devices, like the Xperia Z5 and the Xperia Z5 Premium. While the Xperia Z5 Compact will also receive it, this will only be later in the year.

The Android v7.0 Nougat update, will be made available through an OTA update, only for a select few variants of the Xperia Z smartphones. What this means is that the Nougat rollout will be specific to a few regions. So users are suggested to regularly check their devices for notifications on the update.

The roadmap for the Android 7.0 Nougat update was defined by Sony much earlier and is only coming to the Xperia Z5 series smartphones now. This update is said to be approximately 1.2GB in size and will offer the entire range of Android Nougat features, according to the Xperia Blog.

Also, those who use a carrier-bound Xperia Z5 device will most likely encounter further delays, because the update will first require the respective carrier to approve the process.

The features includes support for multiple windows, a button for setting the front cameras self-timer and an integration for Google Now in the Xperia launcher. In addition to this, Sony has also upgraded the settings for battery optimisation on the Xperia Z5 smartphones that are eligible for the update.

In Sony’s update log, the company specifies that once you have installed the update for your Xperia Z5 device, you will not be able to downgrade your device to the previous Android version.

Sony has updated the list of devices that will be eligible to receive the Android Nougat update. The list now includes, Xperia XZ, Xperia X Performance, Xperia X Dual, Xperia X Compact and Xperia X. Along with these devices, Sony will be releasing the Android 7.0 Nougat update for devices like the Xperia Z4 tablet and the Xperia Z3+. Last to receive the update will be the Xperia XA Ultra and the Xperia XA smartphones.
