For fans of the Star Wars series, collecting memorabilia is not just exciting, it is a must. So when each new movie releases, there is sure to be something to add to the collection. Marking the release of the latest movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is the Japanese mobile company SoftBank. Their addition to the list of collectible items is a Star Wars themed smartphone developed by SHARP.

With two phones to choose from, one for the Dark Side and another titled the Light Side, collectors are sure to be thrilled no matter which side of the Force they find allegiance with.

The devices both come with an IGZO touchscreen display of 5.3 inches and a screen resolution of 1080 pixels. Fitted with a Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor, the smartphones are sure to deliver a user experience that is smooth and multi-levelled.

The in-built 3 GB of RAM should allow multitasking between games, internet browsing and video watching without posing any problems. However if you wish to play heavy Android games, users may experience some lag.

In true Star Wars style, the primary camera of this phone is certainly space age, as it has a lens of 22.6 megapixels. The device has an IP58 rating which means that you should definitely handle it with care around water and extremely dusty situations. The smartphone is on the thicker side, measuring 7.6mm and weighing at 155gms.

Powered by a battery that has a capacity of 3000mAh, the smartphone should deliver a battery life of approximately one day. This is only when you are not using 4G however. The in-built storage capacity is of 32GB and can be expanded via an external microSD card of up to 256GB. Allowing enough space for applications, documents, photos and maybe even the Star Wars movie series!

It additionally offers a TV tuner, which is common with other Japanese mobile devices. Integrated with this is a free Star Wars themed Movie Play app that allows users unlimited watching of Star Wars: The Force Awakens until the end of the year 2020.

While the specifications are admittedly not all that impressive, what does make this smartphone exciting for Star Wars enthusiasts, is the range of added features that are themed around the franchise.

This includes live wallpapers which makes your phone resemble the TIE fighter cockpit or even an X-Wing. Depending on which side of the Force you ally with, you can even choose from Android 6.0 Marshmallow themes based on them. There is as an integrated Star Wars Dark Side or Light Side themed alarm clock, ringtones, emojis, ringtones and even a card collecting game.

To top it off, users will also get five collectible metal figurines that are based on the Rogue One movie. The smartphones certainly look the part, with colour-shifting bodies, red and black for the Dark side version and white and blue for the Light Side.

The only issue is that if fans really want these phones, they will have to travel to or be living in Japan, as it available only in the country. Priced at ¥97,920, this is undoubtedly priced as a collector piece and not meant for the masses.

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life
