Uber Launches New Rider App

Uber, a popular online cab aggregator worldwide, offers a range of products providing commuters smoother cab rides on a daily basis across cities in various countries. To provide an enhanced user experience, Uber has recently revamped its rider app by adding new features (along with a new logo) that make it easier for a user to browse the app as well as providing value added services. The new app has been rolled out globally in phases, and is available on both iOS and Android platforms.

Let us take a look at some of the features that the new rider app boasts of:

Capturing the end destination – This allows a user to see upfront the fares, distance, travel time and an estimated arrival time even before the trip has begun.

Shortcuts – When on the road, the app will be able to predict shortcuts to the existing route based on user data (from previous rides) based on the location and time of day. This will help reduce the commute time, should the user choose to modify their route basis these shortcuts.

People search – The Uber app allows users to sync their mobile phone contacts, which in turn will enable them to pin their destination to an individual instead of merely a location. Irrespective of where a person is, the app will then take you directly to them.

Calendar integration – This feature will help a user create shortcuts (to their route) automatically when a meeting is scheduled via your calendar, which is also synced to the Uber app.

Detailed ride information – Using this option, a commuter can choose their ride (from UberGo to UberX to Uber Pool) by comparing fares across variants. Also, in a bid to save time for a commuter, the rider app will provide details on the nearest walking destination to make it easier to find your cab. This will eliminate the need for instance, to wait while your cab navigates traffic snarls or narrow lanes.

Uber feed – This functionality will collate all the details pertaining to your trip with Uber in one place. So when you request a ride, for instance, the driver’s details, where the driver is at, is available to you. Changing destinations is also made possible if need be. Additionally, this feature is expected to allow users to check timings on buses, subway and train rides.

Lifestyle options – The app also elevates your ride by a notch. From merely ferrying you from point A to B, you can now stay connected to social media such as Snapchat. You can also unlock exclusive Snapchat features via the app, or get local tips from Yelp and Foursquare (depending on where you are located). The app also allows you to stream your favourite music from Pandora, as well as order a snack or meal from UberEats, so that your food arrives when you do.
