Uber Revamps Its App from Scratch

Uber, the rent a taxi app, has unveiled a heap of new updates. These are not only to make the app interface more user-friendly, but also to revamp the look from top to bottom. Here’s a round-up of what you can expect from the new Uber app.

If you are a regular user of the app, you are probably tired of repeatedly typing in the same location. With the latest updates, the app has got smarter and now has the ability to make suggestions for your routine rides, based on your time of day and your current location. These will be presented in the form of shortcuts that look like widgets on your screen. This is certain to make things not only easier but also quicker.

If you prefer to know the exact cost of your journey before you book a ride, you’re in luck! Rather than giving customers estimates as it previously did, the app now tells you the exact fare in advance. Additionally, you can even find out details such as the driver’s details and your expected time of arrival, prior to booking. The app can now also suggest what spot is the best for pick-up based on the traffic, feasibility and other factors.

When travelling in groups, more often than not, the person who books the taxi is stuck paying for the ride, if the payment is done online. Thankfully, this is no longer an issue! You can now choose to split the cost of a ride between your friends.

Another ability the app will have, is contacting people through your address book to ask for their location. For this to be activated however, you must grant Uber access to your contacts.

Looking to transform the journey experience, Uber has integrated a number of other features into the app, such as a feed that you can scroll through. These cards will appear at the bottom of the map which tracks your ride, and will offer options like listening to music using Pandora radio or choosing an eatery to deliver to your destination before you arrive. While most of these cards are currently only available in the US, other users around the world will hopefully see similar such options soon enough. With millions of users spread across more than 450 cities, Uber is steadily growing as the best and cheapest taxi service to travel by.

Mobile Upgrades: Killing The Product Before Its Time?

Have to agree. The speed of newer phone models within the same series and newer app versions lead to more thought put into buying decisions. Phone lines have a definite short shelf life

Frequently upgrading the software is a real problem as updating the software might cause your phone to lag because of the older hardware.

They should come out with upgrades for the specific phones and not for the separate Operating System. This way a special version for your phones specific hardware can be made
