Xiaomi YI 4K Action Camera
The latest entrant into the camera market, the Xiaomi YI 4K Action Camera promises to deliver far more than what the best in class cameras so far have. Successor to the Xiaomi YI action camera, the new phone comes with a lot of enhancements not only in terms of specifications and features but also the way it looks. It boasts of the most advanced technology to provide maximum fidelity, versatility and ease of use.
With professional quality features and specs to topple the current market leader, the Xiaomi YI 4K action camera is slated to be the one to watch out for.
As the name suggests, the camera can record videos in 4K, to give unmatched picture quality at 30 fps, 2.5K at 30 fps and 1440p at 60 fps. Further, it can shoot slow motion videos at a resolution of 1080p and 120 fps, or 960p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps.
The processor chip used here is the new Ambarella A9SE chip, an upgrade from cameras that continue to use the older A9. This chip gives a better performance with lower power consumption, which even at maximum resolution allows the battery (1400 mAh) to work for a full 2 hours straight, to record 4K video at 30 fps, compared to other cameras which can at best go for one hour.
The camera used is the 12 megapixel Sony IMX377 with a dimension of 1/2.3”, which can shoot stills as well as videos and a seven-layer optical glass lens gives a 160 degree field of view. Further, with the F2.8 large aperture, the light intake increases to capture detailed footage effortlessly.
The YI 4K uses a dual band Wi-Fi network which allows faster download speed. With Bluetooth connectivity as well it will be possible to use a remote control to operate the camera.
The camera is currently available in three different colours: night black, white pearl and rose gold.
The YI 4K is available on most online giants including AliExpress and Amazon, at a retail price of USD 249 from mid-July 2016. What’s also being talked about is that it is priced far cheaper – almost half – than what the GoPro Hero 4 Black is sold at, despite the YI 4K sharing the same mainboard and other specifications.
The bottom line
Here’s a word of caution, though – similar to the YI 1, there are both Chinese and international versions of the YI 4K Action Camera. Before you make the purchase, confirm that you have chosen the international version, because the Chinese version does not allow the user to change language settings, which means that you will wind up with a Chinese menu on your camera!
The bottom line is that if you’re looking for a camera that has features better than others in the market in its range at close to half the price, then look no further and give the YI 4K a go.
